10 Unique facts you should know about Taiwan

24 August 2018 Taipei, Taiwan

Hello guys, welcome back. Have you read my story about Being Stranded in the stunning place ?😁 Well this time I'm gonna share 10 Unique facts in Taiwan that you should know. What are they???

1) Eating without drinking water

What??? 😱😱😱 Normally, after having meals in most countries including Indonesia we will have water to drink. In Taiwan, in contrary, people will not prepare drinking water since they don't need it. So, instead of drinking water after eating, they drink soup. The soup could be veg soup or fish soup.
To me as Indonesian, of course, it was a surprise. haha

2) Dogs are treated equally with kids

In Taiwan, dogs are very well-treated and dog’s clothes are everywhere (I thought it was baby clothes🤦‍♀️). Even my host fam said that most of Taiwanese prefer to pet dogs rather than to have children with the reason that dogs are easier and effortless to take care than kids.

In the first time I heard that, of course, I was like having an inner struggle to believe it, its simply because even if we both (human and animals) are living things but we cannot be totally compared that easily.😥

3) Waking up late on weekends
12.30 PM (waking up late on weekends)

On weekends, people in Taiwan tent to wake up at midday. On my first week especially on Saturday and Sunday, I was wondering what happened as I used to wake up at 5 am in the morning because nobody woke up yet while it was already 12.30 pm in the afternoon haha.

Then, I realise that it was because of day-off work (weekends) so my host family members stay sleeping till midday. As a result, our breakfast and lunchtime were put all at once haha.😁

4) Husband has a responsibility to prepare dinner

Another uncommon thing to me is when I noticed my host-papa prepared us dinner every evening. Do you know what? husband in Taiwan has the responsibility to cook dinner for the entire family members. It was an unusual fact to me as I never see my dad cooking us food unless my mom gets sick.
So, if you girls out there don't know how to cook go find a Taiwanese husband haha.😂✌️

5) Only tissue available in the public toilet

Well, this one might be common for many people since most countries also use tissue in the toilet. However, for me, it totally got me shocked since I used to use water to wash after pee or poop then using the tissue to get dried. So, it will be so much uncomfortable without washing after taking the poop. Hello Indonesian, can you imagine pooping without water? haha 😂🤪

6) Finding a mosque is not easy

Actually, I am not really surprised about this one since the majority of Taiwanese are non-muslim. Consequently, I never heard Adzan during my six weeks stay in Taiwan haha.🙈

7) Students have napping time in primary level

This one is new to me because I did not have napping time when I was in primary level. Poor me haha.

So, students start studying at school at 8 am and return home at 4 pm. But between those hours they have 10 minutes break in the middle of two subjects, 30 minutes for lunch and 30 minutes for napping. I think this is well-organized 👍👍👍

8) A family member cannot stop eating until the foods finished

It is considered impolite when you have leftovers. So, number 8 unique fact for me when I was there is about eating manner. In my host family, I learnt that the foods we have on the table are the gift for that day that should be finished. Since I cannot eat much yet I could not stop until all the meals finished, so I always eat slowly and kept eating until everybody has done too. 😁

Also, it is reasonable for me eating slowly for I really don't know how to use the chopstick. Another positive side to me though. 🤣✌️

9) It is difficult to find a trash can, yet it is clean everywhere

If I have to admit one thing about Taiwan, then I will surely admit the way of its people in keeping everywhere clean. It is really difficult to find a trash can in there and yet you cannot find garbage anywhere. In the other words, even if they provide a very limited trash can, the city can stay clean. That because the government apply fines for people who litter carelessly.

Also, the garbage collection truck is very unique because it has a song like kids song. To be honest, I thought it was an ice cream vendor passing by 🤣🤣🤣

10) Left-side walking and lining up rules

The last unique fact about Taiwan I would like to share is the left-side walking and lining up rules. Another thing that I admire about this country is the awareness of its people to obey the public regulations. We can imagine there are hundreds or even thousands of people using the public facilities, yet it never gets stuck and remained well-ordered. It is simply because they are well-obeyed people. Even, inside the MRT for example, students or teenagers will never get the seat until all older people get ones which means Taiwanese show a lot of respect for others.

So, that's the 10 unique facts you should know about Taiwan and don't forget to read my other stories only at TRAVEL🌐. See you in my next story….. 😘😘😘

  3. Wah, Taiwan. Keren kayaknya.

Saya pikir kebiasaan mereka mirip2 aja dengan Hongkong. Sy pernah ke Hongkong tapi sebagai turis 3hari saja, tak sempat mengamati kebiasaan mereka selama seminggu.

Some day i'll visit this small island's country.
